TN: 2001 Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County

  • 2001 Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County - USA, California, Sonoma County (3/5/2011)
Only when I taste these do I realize how much I do enjoy them, especially after a month of drinking high-octane wines. Still darkish. Upon opening I sensed some cork? but it blew off super quick. The nose is all cassis and black cherries and violets. Palate is pure with red and black fruits of cassis, plum, blackberries, pomegranate and more. There is a very elegant mouth feel here with all the hallmarks of Sonoma’s best. Very balanced with resolved tannins and an acidity that is lillty and feather-like. I have had many of these and this has really stood the test of time well. A admirable finish completes the perfect foil for my home-made baguette steak sandwiches I am prepping as I write… (91 pts.)

Thanks for the nice note Mike. Love those wines too. Often the Cinq Cepages can be found on sale for around $30-$35, heck of wine.

I recently found this and the '99 that I had forgotten I had, both were extremely enjoyable. Perfect note!
