TN: 2001 Château Laroque, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé

This is a formidable wine that deserves serious attention. Aromatic nose of ripe black fruits and spices. On the palate, lots of black currant fruit, licorice, plums, cherry, some earthy notes, and a hint of anise. This is a medium bodied wine with superb balance, smooth tannins, and a nice lingering finish. Subtle use of oak rounds off this classic effort in a very elegant fashion…

Hi Rudi,

It’s not for nothing that this was promoted to Grand Cru status in the last classification.
The estate is huge, but they do good work.
I have a soft spot for the 2001 vintage in general.
Thanks for reporting.

All the best,
Alex

I have a soft spot for 2001 too, as you know, Alex. Indeed, 2001 is an almost perfect vintage for all lovers of classic elegance and understatement…
