TN: 2001 Castelnau de Suduiraut (France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes)

  • 2001 Castelnau de Suduiraut - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes (12/6/2009)
The 2001 Chateau Suduiraut is a 100pt wine for me…their second wine is not quite perfect, but very very tasty as well! Starts off with a little funky moth balls…not off putting…kind of adds a nice funk to the wine. Very creamy, viscous, tropical fruit, as well as dried apricots…dripping with honey butter, hazelnuts and some saffron thread. Great botrytis caramel…little harsh with some intense spice, tobacco leaves…nice solid orange acidity…but a little harsh as well. Solid, tasty Sauternes…kind of a “rough drawing” Chateau Suduiraut. For the money though…fantastic! (92 pts.)

This 2001 was a great bargain. Just found the '05 in halves for $11.49 locally. All gone, but a steal in quality Sauternes that’s ready to roll.

I’ve had several of these-all good
