A number of fellow Board members will be gathering in NYC this weekend to enjoy a Barolo blowout of mythic proportions, and while my schedule would not allow me to attend, I did feel obligated to pull the cork on something Italian, albeit from a little further south on the boot.
Color is still a very dark reddish-purple, barely translucent, although it does lighten out to a lovely shade of red on the rim. Lovely nose of frutto di bosco-infused cherry/raspberry fruit, with a whiff of menthol for additional complexity. Sweet red fruits really spread out on the palate - very few hard edges here on this medium-bodied wine, and while I wouldn’t hesitate to further age this wine, it is quite delicious right now, so I may opt to drink mine near-term. 13% alcohol per the label, and one more example of a wine from a very strong vintage in Tuscany.
