TN: 2001 Carlisle Three Birds (USA, California, Sonoma County)

  • 2001 Carlisle Three Birds - USA, California, Sonoma County (4/13/2010)
Blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah…rustic cranberry, orange rim color. Nose of stemy strawberries, raspberries, cherry cola, dusty Kirsch alcohol fumes, dried florals. The first thing you notice is the 15.7 alc. Pretty hot and fumie. Not too off putting, as the fruit is very sweet…so I go on drinking it in a Port fashion. Rustic wild berry fruit, bright and sweet, with some nice age character. Dried floral spice, stemy earth tones, leather, dark chocolate covered cherries, strawberry jam, dried tobacco leaves. Tasty, aging well…but just not liking what the hot alcohol brings to the party. Might be better tomorrow…I’ve had this open in bottle for a couple hrs. For now, a disappointment for a Carlisle. sorry about this… i saw the 02 on Winebid last night looking at all the Ridge I won’t buy… sounds like it might be more “carlisle-like”. I did liberate a few Carlisles from the offsite for immediate consumption this week/month. I’ll post TN’s… really neener

Buzz-

That sure seems like an off bottle. We had our last 01 Birds a year ago or so and it was still bright and youthful. I hope you got more than the one.
