TN: 2000 Réserve de la Comtesse (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

  • 2000 Réserve de la Comtesse - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (12/19/2011)
Ruby color with some distinct leafiness that harkens to Pichon Lalande. Medium bodied, well balanced and although quite herbal (I like this character) , I can see that there would be plenty of people who would call this a fault. Not me. It adds freshness and a crunchiness to the fruit. Soft leather, tobacco, black olives, cassis and stony fruits, with a little baking bitter chocolate on the back end. The tannins are in a nice place now and the wine has a great mix of fruit and savory, primary and secondary traits, with nothing out of balance. While this will hold for several more years easy, I doubt it will gain much complexity. A very nice drink that will do well with my lamb Kafta tonight. A well balanced, enjoyable, polite, very claret like wine. This is not a profound wine, but for me there is great joy in hitting a wine regardless of pedigree at its apogee, and I feel like this happened tonight. Outstanding. 90pts (90 pts.)

I have continued to really enjoy this one. 3 down and 3 to go. The last one I opened in September was really singing.

That’s funny Eric, I saw your note when I opened mine, and couldn’t agree more. A very enjoyable drink. Thanks for reading

I tend to really groove on this sort of green, so I was perhaps a touch more enthusiastic. Your note is making me thirsty for some Pichon Lalande!

I am a fan of the green as well. That said, you were robbed, mine was only 24.99.

FWIW: I tried the 00 PL a few months ago and I think it needs quite a bit of time still. Caveat I am often called a necrophile.

Cheers

Yeah, I wasn’t planning to play with the 2000 PLL, but I have been greedily looking at some 1996’s with the thought of a babykilling. And the 2003 PLL from 375l is a surprisingly tasty baby as well.
