2000 Novy Family Wines Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (11/24/2009)
Opened this for Grace’s bday, born in 2000. Little corky on the nose? Very well might be corked…but the flavors are not masked. Has dark fruit, dusty spiced tannin, and a tingly tart and sour grapefruit acidity to it. Older rustic flavors of beef, leather, mint, roasted coffee and white pepper…very tangy with the citrus acidity, which takes over in the finish, and kind of kills the finish like a sweet tart. Seems very similar to the Garys’ 2000 as well. The mid-palate is the best part of this wine. Will try for a better 2000 later… (87 pts.)
