Found on a list of a local restaurant for $80, which seemed like a good deal for graduation dinner. Popped and decanted for an hour before the main courses. Opaque black robe and a beautiful nose of graphite, cassis, mulberry, and earth. On the palate the wine was nicely balanced, with a great mixture of cassis, licorace, earth, minerality, and chalk. Tannins were still very present, but integrated into the whole. Very nice indeed. (92 Points)
great restaurant price!

Yeah, you can thank an over zealous owner doing the purchasing back in 2003 for that. He apparently got caught up in the 2000 craze and bought WAY too much Bordeaux, which they are still trying to work off the list.
Love the black ‘robe’. I haven’t read that descriptor since wine books from the 60s and 70s.
great price period- retail for sure, and especially so at a restaurant. Dub thyself Winehunter.
Thanks for the note, I may need to check one out sometime soon. And you got very lucky on the price, it is below lowest value at Wine-Searcher!
I would happily “help” the owner with his surplus of 2000s problem by buying a case off him at that price…
Well if you are ever in Williamsburg, VA, go to the Kitchen at Powhatan.
