TN: 2000 Domaine de la Janasse Vieilles Vignes CDP

Opened this last night to pair with braised lamb shanks and risotto, and I am finishing the last third of the bottle now.

The wine is dark purple in the glass, showing little sign of age. The nose offers up an engaging mix of red fruit and lavender. In the mouth the wine delivers a terrific mix of plum, pepper, herbes de provence, licorice, and scorched earth. Just a whole lot going on. Still, the wine is nicely balanced and a pleasure to drink. If I had to criticize, I would say the finish was perhaps a bit shorter than I expected. This made for a terrific pairing with last night’s lamb and is perfectly good on its own today.
