TN: 2000 Château Pichon Lalande

  • 2000 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (6/17/2009)
The bottle was pristine; opened about 6 hours prior to dinner, no decant, just re-inserted the cork. Dark purple/ruby color. No shy boy here, jumping right out of the gate, exhibiting a pure and unreal bouquet of ripe black fruits and star anise; with air, revealed complex notes of tapenade, creosote, wet rocks/asphalt drying in the afternoon sun and tree bark. Pretty impressive how the aromas became more and more complex over time. Medium to full bodied, with a velvety mid-palate, layers of flavor, and a long, nicely focused finish. Still some tannins to resolve – ripe tannins for certain – but this is clearly a modern-day reference point for Pichon Lalande. (96 pts.)

Thanks for the TN Brian. I’ve got four of these in the cellar, but haven’t had the chance to try one yet. Looking forward to comparing it to the '00 Baron, which i’m way long on…hopefully I’ll find someone to match up some bottles…

Jeff you read my mind, I’ve got both wines and always wanted to compare them side by side.
