TN: 2000 Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru) (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

It gave a very youthful appearance in the decanter. Lovely aromatics of dark fruits and hints of florals. Nicely evolved from my bottle of five years ago, it showed meaty and savory qualities, tobacco, with dark cherries becoming more pronounced after more time in the decanter. There are underlying tannins, but they are mildly noticeable, and there are cedar notes on the finish. Acidity is interwoven and created layers and freshness. Not a flashy wine, but a lovely lunch or dinner wine.

Thanks for the note. I bought a case on release, but I think I’ll give it another 3 or 4 years before I crack it.

No rush, but it is drinking nicely now.

Diane, my take on this was almost exactly as yours: drinking very well now, not a blockbuster but a decent Bordeaux of the old-school crowd.

Diane and Markus–Agreed. We had this last week and thought it was nice Bordeaux that could have been from the 60’s or 70’s. Very good wine made the old fashioned way.

very good and substantially better than “decent.” Fruit and tannin integrated and coexisting nicely, drinking extremely well, but will last. great finish.

Sounds very nice, Diane. So, what did you pair with it?

It was lunch at Gramercy Tavern. My chicken and sausage over polenta was delicious but not a great pairing. However, my husband’s lamb loin and hen of the woods mushrooms was an exquisite match and brought out the best in the wine.

Yum!
