TN: 2000 Ch. Malartic Lagraviere, Pessac Leognan

If you happened to read the note I posted tonight after suffering through the 2007 Linne Calodo Problem Child, then you will have added perspective when you read my note on this wine, which was opened in reaction to that bottle.

I have not opened many 2000 Bordeaux yet, but I decided to give this rather unheralded bottle a try tonight. The wine is inky and dark in the glass and offers inviting, floral aromatics. Tipping the scales at a stated 13% abv, this wine is light on its feat but full of flavors of plum, cassis, cedar, and charcoal. Well balanced with good length, this wine opened up nicely after an hour decant and seems to be capable of delivering years of future pleasure. I think I paid something like $25 for this bottle pre-release. I call that a bargain (the best I ever had? – no, but a bargain nonetheless).

Thanks for the note, Brad. I’ve got a few of these buried in boxes. Sounds like it’s about time to dig one out and give it a whirl.

sounds nice, and better than the 2000 Haut-Chaigneau I am currently sipping on
