TN: 2000 Casa Lapostole Clos Apalta

This had a big dark nose on night one so I had a sip (and major heart burn) and let it sit over night. Day two left me scratching my head about this wine. It seemed to change by the minute. One moment it had a nose of chocolate, coffee, oak and dark fruits and the next moment it had (I kid you not, even my wife could identify the smell and she doesnt drink wine) the nose of a very ripe garbage bag. You know that sweet but rotting smell garbage bags with food sometimes get? It went though this cycle 2 or 3 times in 2 hours. I couldnt finish the bottle because of that damned nose. When the nose didnt smell like garbage the wine was pleasant enough. My wife couldnt believe the change. The palate was medium in weight with some plums, vanilla, sweet spices and an odd dose of tart bitterness? I dont know how to explain it. As much as it changed with air, it never hit a sweet spot for me. Im glad I have only one left. Ill let it sit for a while and see. bleh -

Berto,
You make it sound so delectable ! I would not have gone back after the 1st garbage smell. I have some 2005 and I won’t touch it yet but I sure hope it shows better than that, otherwise day two I’ll send you the balance of the bottle [berserker.gif]

Send away!
I wouldnt normally go back, but it didnt smell like garbage at first. Then I just couldnt believe it so when I went to check again it smelled fine…then back to garbage. Unreal… [foilhat.gif]
