TN: 2 great Cabs--06 Quivet Cabernet and 01 Neal Cabernet

Both wines showed just beautifully. The Quivet showed its young age and to me it was more delish. The tannins were smooth as silk and it had a wondeful taste of asian spices. It was consistent throughout and nicely balanced. The funny thing is that the 05 Quivert was the backward wine with the 05 Myriad ready to go. Now the 06 Quivet is great to go with no decanting or anything. Just great for my palate. 95 points.

I took the 01 Neal due to a nice review that I read recently. It was a great wine sometime in 03 or 04 but after that I had numerous dissapointments. This one was great, very smooth, nice dark fruit, more true to the Cab characteristics than the Quivet, but I liked them both. For some reason showed more acidity than I remembered, but great with food. I think that most on this board would give the nod to the Neal, I just loved the baby fat on the Quivet, while the Neal showed more lean. 94 points.

I have had 6 bottles of the 2006 Quivet and they have all been spectacular. Gobs of lush fruit, pure hedonism. I consider this to be one of the star QPR’s of 2006.

Otto,

Which Quivet are we talking about, the Kenefick or the Spring Mountain?

Spring Mountain.

Nice job, Otto.
I recently posted on that '01 Neal.
Same exp as you: Few bottles were not showing well over the years, but it is back in fine form now.
A very nice Cab

It’s your note Dennis that got me to open up the Neal, excellent wine again after quite a bit of time. Not Boredeaux hibernation time, but some 5 years nevertheless! [thankyou.gif] Also try the 06 Quivet, like Curtis said, it’s a hedonistic wine.

Well, in that case, glad it worked out and you don’t think I’m nuts! Also validates my take, which helps. Thanks for the tip on Quivet

Thanks Otto. I had thought that would have needed time, so I had not opened any yet. I’ll guess I will add it to the queue.
