TN: 2 From Ohio!

2007 Harpersfield Pinot Gris St. Fiacre
$17 Ohio. I admit to having low expectations. And for the money, yes, there are better wines in Alto Adige or perhaps Oregon. But this was nice. Golden in color. A nose of almonds and steel. Medium bodied. Slightly bitter on the palate despite a hint of sweetness. Still, the wine went down easily and was fun. No harm no foul. 50+3+12+16+5=86

2006 Kinkead Ridge Revelation
One of my favorite Ohio wineries, but I finally hit a dud. Perhaps this should have been drunk last year or just a bad bottle. Ruby red in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is quite nice; earthy, complex with cassis and tobacco. Very Bordeaux like. Medium bodied. The palate was quite tart. In fact, to tart, that I decided not to finish the bottle. It was drinkable, but I was in a “life is short” mood and went to something else. Oh well. 50+3+12+8+2=75

Thanks for posting, Loren. It’s always fun to read about wines from unexpected places,
