TN: 1999 Vérité La Muse (USA, California, Sonoma County)

Mmm, this stuff is always wonderful. A little celery stalk, brett, cocoa and cassis on the nose. The palate is rich, ripe, and lush. Like a gorgeous, ripe-vintage Pomerol or St. Emilion. Silky, delicious, easy, nice verve, dusty tannins on the finish. Really quite lovely. (94 pts.)

Tottaly agree with your assessment. Fantastic wine, and I got my bottles at Costco for $59. [tease.gif]

Parker made a very good call on this one. I think it was one of his highest rated 1999 Cali wines at 96 points. It is stellar wine. I have been through 8 or 9 always with great pleasure.

Thanks, Eric.

I had my first experience with this producer four months ago, with this very bottling. I was really impressed and will be on the lookout for other bottles. My note from early May:

1999 Vérité La Muse Sonoma County. This has an extremely appealing bouquet of black currant, Fuji apple, smoke, plum, BBQ sauce, green pepper, tomato leaf, leather and volcanic rock. It tastes a bit ashy on the entry, but quickly fleshes out to reveal a tasty blend of classy red and black currant fruit and a bit of fine melted chocolate flavors. There is simply great balance to the wine in all phases of the game, with a smooth, impeccable texture, pure flavors and outstanding length carrying it along effortlessly. What a nice wine. 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A couple of years ago, I attended what I believe was the first full vertical for the Verite label (through the '05 vintage iirc). I thought the '99 vintage was far and away the best of the vintages.

All downhill for this winery since, IMO. 2003s (last vintage tasted) were an easy pass.

great note eric. I’ve had this three times and its been real sexy each time and fully agree with the st emilion-esque style of it right now
