1999 Hamacher Pinot Noir Oregon - USA, Oregon (9/29/2009)
Did a pop and pour. This came out of the gates rocking with a really deep nose of plums, sandlewood, roses, wet forest floor, and smoke.
The initial palate mirrored the nose very deep and complex with classic Oregon plum and dark cherries, spicy oak, minerals and a complex finish
of tobacco and tea which gave way to tart cherries. Smooth and seemless.
This wine appeared to be on it’s way to being a really great bottle until about 30-45 minutes in when it started to fall apart. The nose shut down
and the finish started to fade. The fruit came across as being stewed and the minerality really took over. I will say the first 30 minutes of this wine
was a 93+ experience. Overall a really fun bottle. (88 pts.)
