1999 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles-St.-Jacques - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (8/31/2009)
Kept in fridge for 1 hour and served at about 15C.Decanted and drunk over the next two hours.
A glorious nose of red fruit, quite rich and full on the palate but with lovely velvety texture.A little short and tight initially but over time the wine opened up and I think it is perhaps close to its drinking window although will no doubt last for a good few years and possibly improve.
A wine that was lovely to sip over a few hours whilst reading the Harry Karis CdP book and enjoying a rare beautiful late summers day. Think this style of wine is just perfect without food although the last half bottle was very nice with salmon trout and potatoes. Abv 13% Excellent (90 pts.)
