1999 Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo
Purchased and consumed a bottle at a restaurant. The nose is huge, with some barnyard, ripe and dusty cherry, tobacco leaf, and earthy notes. The palate is mature, with good fruit level still, supported by earth, gravel, bitter chocolate and coffee notes. Nice and complex both on nose and palate. The structure is still big and while the primary fruit is fading this will continue to develop tertiary notes over the next years. Ending in tobacco, menthol, dark chocolate with sweet Tannins finely grained on the end. 91 points
Great wine, great vineyard. But oh the price!
John, i was not sure about retail prices for current vintages. This one was 60 EUR off the list at the restaurant
Thats a great price Mattias it’s just a hint more than the 2009’s price here in DK so I would have bought it also and thanks for the note:-)
I bought a pair of these back in 2002 for $46.48 each. The second one about 9 months ago was a stunner. Really terrific wine!
Retail here now is about $80-$100.
