Finally had a chance to open my last bottle of what has been a lovely, classical, moderate weight right bank Bordeaux. It’s tough to find wines like this anymore, and that’s why it tough to find Bordeaux to add to my cellar anymore.
1999 Château Moulin Saint-Georges - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (2/27/2014)
A lovely, balanced, classic weight Bordeaux that delivered fruit, spice, cedar and a gentle tannic spine. This is in a lovely place right now, but with no fear for the future.
I actually bought the 1996 as futures, and drank the last bottle 12/31/12. My day-after-NYE note: “Really really good and I’d judge it to be at peak. Cab Franc very much in evidence in nose.”
A look at wine searcher shows availability of vintages from 1996 to 2012.
Wow that’s a pretty decent price on the 1998. I remember buying them for $25 when first released. Haven’t tried anything from them after 2000. Does anyone know if the style has remained the same?
