1999 Beni di Batasiolo Barolo - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (7/23/2009)
Amber color on the rim, showing distinct signs of age, muted nose, leather and meatiness. I am not a barolo expert and I thought they could go at least 10 years if not longer, but this wine seems past its prime with faded fruit.

Hey Bonnie,
I’m not familiar with the wine in question but 99 is an all time fantastic Barolo vintage and most wines are still extremely young and tight, many closed. A wine being already on the wane sounds suspicious to me. I think 93 is drinking well now for Piedmont vintages, and 98s and 00s are the most approachable of the last 10 vintages (96-05 being what is out there). 01 is a great vintage but a bit riper than 99 and 96 and some of the wines seemingly not shut down, whereas 96 and 99 need a lot more time. Some of the wines perhaps still need 8-10 years from those vintages.
