1999 Badia di Morrona Colli dell’Etruria Centrale VignAalta - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Colli dell’Etruria Centrale (4/7/2014)
Inky dark ruby, blood orange, candied cherry nose. A little off dry, acid and brambles. I was expecting more on opening, but disappointed thinking I had let it go past it’s prime. Night two and it is starting to shine, bright red berry, currants with just a little better element that I find in a lot of Italian wines. Pretty fruity, but the acid calms it down a lot. Leather and earth promote a complexity that is very enjoyable similar to a Brunello. Brought home from a Tuscan winery visit 11 years ago, so pleasantly rewarded with the development and longevity. Still some primary tannins to integrate with the acid and fruit. Room for improvement with more age. Great with food. (92 pts.)
