1998 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (1/18/2010)
Lighter in color then I normally expect from a Spottswoode Cab. The nose had a bit of a funky sorta tomato smell when it was first popped but that blew off quite quickly and never resurfaced, which is certainly a good thing. After that, lots of red candy fruit notes on the nose. Lighter body with lots of fruit and good acidity. Decent finish. I would have liked a bit more body. I think this wine is showing as good as it is going to get at this point. A good effort from the weak 1998 vintage. (86 pts.)
