TN: 1998 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena)

I opened this bottle with a beef rib roast tonight. Went very well with it. The price points on older secondary market bottles of Spottswoode make them a good buy IMO. I paid $40 for this.

No real signs of bricking. Cigar box and plum on the nose. Dark chocolate, earth, and blueberries on the palate. Long finish. Medium+ acid level. Well integrated tannin. A very nice bottle. (91 pts.)

Totally agree. Especially true in “off” vintages, where Spottswoode manages to outperform the vintage generally. The 2000 is another secondary market bargain well worth exploring.
