1998 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde- France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie (5/31/2009)
Very slight leaker. Despite the minor leakage, this is performing well, albeit not as well as last time I had it about two years ago. Bacon fat, black pepper, and black currant on the nose. Pretty solid structure on the palate with good freshness. Black currant, pepper, and cold smoked flavors on the palate. Finishes long and fully dry. Keeps putting on more and more weight with continued air. Will be interesting to see how the next bottle will perform.
Just had this wine last evening. Paired with grilled marinated flank steak. My first experience with this bottling. I was impressed at how mature and balanced it was. Loved the midpalate and agree with the full dry finish. I got some black fruit/meat, but not a lot of pepper. All in all very enjoyable.
Congrats to you and the site for the upswing in members and traffic. Funny how things work out !! Looking forward to seeing you next time you swing through Wisconsin.
while the B&Bs aren’t generally as strong as they were before Guigal brought d’ampuis into the fold, I still love these wines. I haven’t had the 98 yet, but have always enjoyed a Guigal B&B and I love how they just bring that essence of cote rotie
