TN: 1998 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence

  • 1998 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (7/2/2009)
Simply a big, beautiful bottle of wine. Decanted almost two hours, but right out of the bottle the nose was gorgeous, with dark red fruit, garrigue and underbrush, purple flowers, spice and licorice. The palate was full bodied, balanced, and carried through beautifully to a terrific finish, and tasted of sappy red-black fruit and minerals. Sweet but not at all candied, big but not over the top in any way, and a tremendous example of great CdP. Wow! (95 pts.)

Timely note, thanks. I bought a few bottles from another BB’er recently as but have yet to try. It seems like a keeper for a few more years before reaching the plateau of its maturity, and a better wine (for once) than the Reservee.

I will be posting later, but I drank a 1989 Laurence last night and it was terrible, way over the hill.
