TN: 1998 Domaine de la Janasse Côtes du Rhône Les Garrigues

  • 1998 Domaine de la Janasse Côtes du Rhône Les Garrigues - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (9/11/2009)
Popped and poured at 16C. Some sediment and bricking. The nose is explosive - cherries. licorice, and roses…a definite sweetness to the bouquet. Smooth, enveloping attack with a rich tapestry of licorice, cherries and a note of burnt wood marking the long, reverberating acidic final. This is a big bodied, smooth and round Cotes du Rhone that can’t completely hide it’s 14.5% alcohol, but comes remarkably close. Quite a showstopper for an 11 year old CdR…I look forward to seeing how my other 5 will show over the next 3-5 years. (90 pts.)

Thanks for the note. Makes drinking the 2007s seem wasteful.

Yes…when I picked up my 2007’s from a dealer I trust implicitly he told me they’d easily make good drinking 15 years out. I’m not planning on touching those till around 2017 and even then it will just be to check in on them.
