1998 Château Quinault L’Enclos - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (9/11/2009)
What a difference almost two years makes! Cork popped four hours before dinner, then poured into and severed from a decanter. This has come together so nicely and is now an outstanding wine. Dark muddy red color with lightening at the edges. The nose says this can’t be anything but bordeaux. Dark red fruit, leather, tobacco, a kind of tarriness. In the mouth the balance is terrific. Tannins in the resolving phase with good acidity come together to create a medium mouth feel with no glaring holes. Flavors of dark currant, mocha, spice and earth. Finish certainly improved from two years ago. This is drinking well and should hold for some time. (92 pts.)
