TN: 1998 Château Mouton Rothschild (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

1998 Château Mouton Rothschild - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (5/1/2021)

Opened by a friend. Decanted 4 hours before dinner. 2nd time I have had this wine. The first being upon release when the producer was pouring at a tasting. This has really rounded into form. Drank next to a 1998 Haut Brion and 1998 Mayacamas. This was my favorite of that lineup. Light sediment. Crimson color. Firm tannins. Solid core of red fruit with ripe berries, beef blood and currant notes. Very lively and youthful. No rush to drink. 97 points.

Thanks Jeff-glad you posted this. I’ve got a 750 and a mag of this-planning to open the 750 sometime this year. We opened a '98 Haut Brion last year that was just singing, in a very good place.
