TN: 1998 Château Chauvin, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé

Chauvin is a neighbour of Cheval Blanc and Ripeau. Michel Rolland is the consultant, but nevertheless, this is a classic, true vin de garde… The Label is similar to that of Cheval Blanc, but without the two golden medals…
A seductive, concentrated nose of blueberries, leather, and forest floor is followed on the palate by ripe black and red cherry fruit, cassis, liquorice, spices, and minerals. The delicious fruit is balanced beautifully by decent acidity, and gentle tannin. A fine sweetness with a hint of marzipan lingers impressively on the relatively dry finish. This is a very elegant, not massive, wine. Too bad, my last bottle…
