1998 Billard-Gonnet Pommard 1er Cru Tastevinage
Dark fruit, spice and forest floor are all on the nose. The nose is unified rather than layered in its presentation. With aeration the dark fruits turn a bit sweeter. The palate starts with dark fruit and spice before taking a mineral turn that leads to a quite persistent finish. Texturally, the wine starts out broad on the the palate and turns linear on the finish. The nose is perfumed and delicate while the palate is much more tense and even a bit stoic or stern on the finish.
To say this is “very Pommard” makes sense to me. Trying this at this phase is very enjoyable but for my taste, this still has a long way to go.
