TN: 1998 Beaurenard Chateanuef du Pape. This is a bit past prime drinking window, but still drinking, meaning the exuberance of its youth has faded into a pleasant wine, but no complexity has developed. The nose is MIA, but the palate delivers traditional Provencial herbs and stewed sweet berry compote (from age, not heat damage). The alcohol is in check, something I often find problematic in 98s. Not complex, but a decent basic cuvee that I should have drunk up a few years back. Drys a touch on the end. I would have liked to see this cuvee with the grapes from Cuvee Boisrenard folded into this bottling – count me in as those against the “special cuvee”. $22. 86 points tonight.
Yeah, but 98 Boisrenard is a great wine.
