TN: 1997 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino

Opened last night and decanted for 3 hrs. Nose little reticent but drinking beautifully. Leather, dark red fruit, long finish. Great mouth feel. Early maturity.

Alan, just out of curiosity have you tried his '99 recently?

Alan so far i have opened 4. 2 corked badly and 2 not nearly ready. I will try my next bottle with some well earned trepidation. I love the Estate. I have been there and enjoyed their wines for many years. This vintage has not shown good for me yet though.

I have not

This bottle was showing well. Sorry to hear about your corked bottles.

I had the 99 not too long ago. Still pretty primary. It is a touch fleshier/ broader and not quite as pure / lifted as the 01, but damned close in overall quality, which is saying something to me. I think it’s a solid 5 years from starting into maturity, a well built wine for sure.

I haven’t had the 97 Pianrosso but overall 97 is not my favorite Tuscan vintage, I’ll take 99,01 over it for sure, and possibly some of the other “lesser” vintages as well

'99 is still young but really starting to open up…it’s a very fine bottle… a little darker and more on the aromatics than the tell tale fruit… a kick-ass effort from Livio…

BTW, we had the '90 last night and it showed brilliantly…starting to emerge from a dumb phase I think…

Note on the '99 . . .

Jack, when did you last try this? I have had this wine probably 6 times. Luckily I have had no corked bottles. It is still a baby, but coming around nicely, based on the one that I had within the past 6 months (I think?).

Jeff, last one was probably just within the last year. One of my corked bottles was brought to a Parker 97 and above Offline. It was fitting that the bottle and the critic have both been corked this year.
