TN: 1997 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot

Inspired by David Bs notes on the '99 and '02 from a few days back.
Grabbed this for football watching along with some other assorted bottles.

  • 1997 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (1/25/2016)
The leathery, earthy, slight funkiness of aged Burgundy on the nose really sings. The nose is the star. Palate is round and resolved, but tasty with soft, dark-ish fruit. Plum? Not terribly complex, no fireworks, but a sound '97 that drinks well now and was quite enjoyable.

Great note, Dennis. I had a bottle of this over the holidays and agree with every bit of your note. Another solid Jadot '97 rouge.

This is one of the very few wines that makes me consider looking around at auction - love the Ursules.

Thanks Andy!

Not ashamed to admit that’s were some of mine came from.

Why would you be ashamed?–I’m missing something, please fill me in. Lots of people buy from auctions, including somer very experienced ones AFAIK.

I think Jadot was one of the very top producers in 1997. Maybe the very best, especially given the number of vineyards and pricing. Never had the Ursules though. Thanks for the note.

Slightly in jest, Peter. Some of the auction houses have been accused of dubious sourcing of wines, etc. Not to rehash that discussion.

That’s what I’ve always heard, Joe. Though, I’ve not had a ton…this one a few times and CSJ which was quite fine, too.

Jadot 1997s are fantastic. Nice job Dennis. I love this bottling as you well know. Hope all is well.
