TN: 1997 L. Jadot Beaune Clos des Ursules

Opened and decanted approx. 1 hour prior to drinking.

I brought this wine – 1 of 10 - to my department Christmas party (all non-winos but, one budding wannabee) and it was easily the WOTN for the group and me as well. The bouquet was full of dried red berries, predominantly cherry with a wee bit of earthy barnyard. The cherry is dominant on the palate but, there is range of flavours that came through as the wine improved for the next hour or so. Starting to brick at the rim, the colour is medium red. We have 5 more of these and they will be getting moved up the drinking line. The wine overall was excellent and my WOTN as well, though the 1996 Leoville Poyfere gave it a run.

Oh by the way, I am planning on starting to post TNs. I posted on the other board but, never felt comfortable doing so. Here … it would appear I am allowed to be as full of sh$t as the next guy.

Thanks for the sh$t… neener

Actually, I was looking at this bottle and it was whispering back. Might need to be a holiday casualty.

Hope you are having fun with the family and drinking well this season.

John

Hey Scott,

Long time. Quite impressive that a pinot would be WOTN for a bunch of non-winos. Tracey and I were in Burgundy this fall and had a great visit at Jadot - it’s surprisingly hands on for such a large producer.

Big game on Saturday, eh?

Ken,
Too long. The kids have been keeping us busy. My son is in hockey up to his snufarus now so we are running three nights with him and two nights with Beth. Not a good excuse though.

Sue and I really liked Jadot when we went. Jacques Lardière couldn’t have been more hospitable. They do so well with this monopole I always use it, when I can, on the newbies and it is usually a hit. I took the same group to the Napa tasting a month or so back and we are all going to the 2006 UGC Bordeaux event. This time I am hoping to talk less and taste more but, I will be battling my yappy self to make that happen. I didn’t buy any 06 as futures at all – first time since 94 but, I wouldn’t mind cherry picking a few of the more impressive so I can be dissappointed at how useless my palate is in ten years. [thankyou.gif]

06? I thought that the upcoming UGC event was for the 2007 wines. I passed on '07 as well and wasn’t planning on attending the event but who knows.

Have a great new year and I hope we have a chance to pull a cork in 2010.

Ken,
07 … you are correct. I am incorrect. I am hoping pricing will reflect the expected acceptance of the vintage but, this is your LCBO!!!
