TN: 1997 Kalin Cellars Sauvignon Blanc Reserve (USA, California, North Coast, Potter Valley)

Last night I tried their Pinot Noir Cuvée DD. It was a very good wine, but this is even better. Wow! Very happy with this wine. Went perfectly with pan roasted scallops and jasmine rice.

Medium lemon color. Gorgeous nose of honeysuckle, lemon zest, beeswax and white pepper. Medium bodied on the palate with perfect acid balance. Silky texture, great presence with a finish of honeyed cream. Delicious. (93 pts.)

You’re on a roll! Now you are ready for the 1996 Kalin Semillon Livermore Valley…

i gotta get a few bottles of kalin

Would like to. I have some of the Chardonnay Cuvée W that I’m looking forward to trying, but no Semillon. Is the Semillon particularly good?

I think that the Kalin Semillon is one of the finest wines made in California, red or white. Its ability to age is impressive, but the wine has shown at ability to drink well at all stages of its evolution. Some vintages are “better” than others (I prefer the 06 to the 07, for example) but I’ve never experienced a bottle that was anything less than pleasurable.

The Semillon is quite good though I’ve seen bottle variation on it. Perfect wine for Asian cuisine when on.

I was very impressed by the Chardonnay I tried for the first time last week as well. The Pinots have been a mixed by in my experience. Would love to try the Sauv Blanc.

You prefer the '06 to the '07? Do you work at the winery?

I am a big fan of Kalin as well as Hanna (grin). I have a feeling that you either love the Semillon or you just avoid it! Comments on another place.
