TN: 1997 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia

  • 1997 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico (2/14/2010)
Popped and poured. Simply a brilliant showing for this 13 year old Chianti, as the temperamental sternness of youth has evolved into a graceful, mature state. The warm 97 vintage provides an hedonistic bowl of ripe black cherries, which are quickly met by a duo of cedar and leather all under that wonderful backbone of Tuscan Earth. While still providing structure the acids and tannin of reached a place of middle age comfort. Still (and surprisingly) many, many good years of quality drinking to go on this. This is one of those rare wines that I cannot fathom less than complete enjoyment by the taster, irrespective of their pre-set delights and prejudices. Pass the Fava’s please… (94 pts.)

This sounded so good I went down to the cellar to see if I had any (I don’t have CellarTracker or anything like a system, I like to visit the bottles).

I have the 2000 and the 2005. I guess I will be waiting a while yet.

I -love- old Chianti though, this wine sounds just perfect.
