TN: 1997 Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Myglands

  • 1997 Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Myglands - France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey 1er Cru (7/25/2016)
Very savoury nose of sage, chestnut, pine needle sap and freshly tilled earth. As you work a bit of air into the wine there’s a most pleasant scent of violets. It is meaty in the mouth and has vinous sweetness and the grip that we associate with ‘old school’ Faiveley.

I have never encountered this bottle from Faiveley, but this sounds delicious, Jeremy. 20 years in softer vintage from an obscure site sounds about right for old-school Faiveley. The last Faiveley that I tried was for science (2001 Corton), and it had none of the good things you describe here.
