1996 - Pol Roger Rose - The second time in a month for this champagne. Rich strawberry and bread in the nose. Some light, light cherry added to the taste which lingered. A very youthful but substantial champagne that appears to have a long life a head of it. I will be interested to try it again in a few years to see what appears as the fruit recedes a little. Excellent bottle.
Nice note. I really like the 96 too. I almost always love Pol Roger’s Rose. With 15-20 years of age, this cuvee really starts to sing for me as it takes on bright, creamy, fruity flavors.
Thanks, Brad. I can’t see the few bottles I have left making it past 2010. So I may try a 10-15 year PR Rose again.
I am glad to see you on this Board. I have learned much from you about champagne. Keep up the great work. - John
Thinking about it, I really should change my optimal drinking window start down to 12 years. The 90 really got good in 2002 and the 85 was kicking in the late 90s.
