TN: 1996 Jacquesson Avize BdB

Based on this bottle disgorged Feb 2005, I dont see the concern that it’s heading downhill as some recent TNs suggest. Lots of ginger and citrus fruit, admittedly the finish does clamp down a bit - but I dont get the hollow midpalate or lack of fruit some report.

Bottle variability?

I don’t agree with the controversy. The bottle we had last weekend was sweet. I’ll still age mine for several more years.

Very timely note as I’m popping a maggie of this tomorrow night at Steve’s Bubble Q in Delaware. I’ll report back…

Peter,

A lot of the fruit has dried out on this since release a few years ago. It is definitely still enjoyable, but I don’t think it is near as good as it once way and it isn’t moving in a direction where it is or will be getting better. It’s just my opinion so I could be wrong, but I don’t see any real benefit from aging this. Not every Champagne is meant to improve over time and there is nothing wrong with that. This is one of them IMO.
