TN: 1996 G. Cortese Barbaresco Rabaja Riserva

My little Clementine is having her 10th birthday sleepunder party tonight. 9 girls screaming in the house.

So for the pizza what better wine than a '96 Barbaresco?

Actually this may be my first '96 vintage success in a while. This baby was singing up opening. Popped the cork at noon today and let it slow O. Decanted at 6pm for sediment.

Beautiful deep garnet color. No signs of bricking at the edges.

Yummy nose of sappy cherry fruit (almost Cascina Franciaesque) mixed with like rose “powder”. A powdery perfume. Bit of forest floor, the tar and eucalyptus.

On the palate, no hard edges on this baby. Sappy cherry fruit on a bed of soft tannins. A bit of bitter rose. Very juicy finish.

Happy camper here.

Also have a '96 Brovia Rocche up next.

Been curious about this one for awhile. I love the regular Cortese Rabaja but I don’t think I ever sprung for the riserva.

It’s not an epiphany wine, but for the price it’s very good.

Getting a bit of iron note now.
