1996 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combes aux Moines- France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (11/29/2014)
Dark and smoky nose. Woodsy (not woody). The fruit is cool, but still rich and primary. Can sense its ripeness, yet it’s tight and angular. Beginning to unfold, but still too soon. Acid is here that gives a real tartness to the palate. Good. Needs time. Posted from CellarTracker
Dennis, thanks for the note. Do you think the non-open status is due to ‘old style’ Faiveley winemaking or the 1996 vintage? I would have hoped and expected a 1996 CAM to be more accessable than this … ? In my (albeit limited) experience 1996s, even some Grand Crus, are starting to open now …
Howard,
I’m with you. I also (limited exp) have been a fan of '96s, in general, for the past couple years, so I would lean toward this being old-style Faiveley that just needs time. This was actually my second bottle of this in the past 24 months with very similar results. Cheers.
Carlos- I bet the '85 is great. Nice one.
