TN: 1996 Domaine Hervé Sigaut Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots

1996 Domaine Hervé Sigaut Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (9/16/2014)
Deep garnet / maroon with slight browning; a touch cloudy. Nose shows forest floor, licorice, rhubarb/ root, black cherry, strawberry and a distinct aroma that I only pick up in goat cheese. The palate was very acidic and closed for the first 60 minutes and gradually opened up after that, showing very nicely with dark, earthy flavors. Smooth over the palate, the acidity is strong and peaks in the mid-palate where it makes the wine feel a bit sharp. Full bodied, this lacked the elegance that I generally expect from this village. The finish is medium-plus and shows secondary flavors of leather and tobacco. Paired very well with grilled lamb.

Very good – Drink or Hold

Was fortunate to buy a dozen of these in 500ml bottles a number of years ago. They were all delicious. Also had good experience with Sigaut’s 99s. Under the radar producer.

I loved the 2006 first release
and next release was cooked and flat
