Bummer. Given 1996 Left Bank BDX, I was expecting “big, still young, lots of fruit, tannic, not sure if tannins will ever go away.”

Agree with the original note. Same goes for the 2000 and 2005 models, in my experience. This is a wine which seems to trade on the notoriety of it’s big brother.
