1996 Château Clinet - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol (10/18/2014)
Very dark ruby, nearly opaque - must be a Parker wine. Sure enough, first sniff and it’s all sur maturite, with prunes, raisins and some soil emerging after swirling. Enters clumsily, with low-ish acids, then swells up, immediately, as it makes its power statement. Some might say prodigious, others might say oafish and sappy. Either way, this is far from ready. The finish is generous, long, but really there’s no finesse to be found at this stage. HOLD. Label say 12,5% abv.
Aerated to decanter 2 hours, served non-blind.
