1996 Bodegas Muga Rioja Gran Reserva Prado Enea - Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (9/9/2009)
Leather, rich red fruit, dust, orange peel and old woodspice on the nose with a bit of sharpness (touch of VA perhaps). Otherwise actually quite complex and intriguing on the nose. Sweet, soft fruit on the palate with bright acid but a drying on the finish. I don’t know Prado Enea well enough to say whether I think this needs time to soften the backend structure or whether it’s already drying out, but it is a bit out of balance at the present. Still a nice drink with dinner but nothing that really blows my skirt up.
