TN: 1995 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie Clos du Bourg

Found this tucked away in the cellar and had fond memories of the last bottle. This one did not disappoint! Beautiful yellow gold in color, with no sediment. We have a quince tree, and the nose on this wine is just like the blossoms, along with honeysuckle. We took a chance with a simple PnP, and it was fine on the first sip at 55F–no need to decant. Sweet but not cloying, with bright acidity. Strong notes of candied apple , citrus, and honey. I’m not really a fan of petrol notes in wines like this, but this one has just a hint of fuel on the finish that delivers one last bit of fun before it goes down the hatch. Crazy great pairing with fresh hot popcorn, a smoked white cheddar, and a few small slices of truffled Gouda. Perfect late afternoon snack on a sunny but chilly Winter day. (95 pts.)

All I ever find “tucked away” are goldfish and old pieces of candy under the seats in my van.

Beautiful note. I really need to drink more Vouvray.

Thanks for the note. I have two of these tucked away for such a day!

Sounds delicious! Love me some Huet, especially with a little age on it.

Thanks for the note!

I have a few older Huet Moelleux and I am always kind of at a loss as to when to pull one out because of confusion over what to eat with it.

Cheese and stone fruit. Dried apricots work very well IME. Also gorgonzola.
