TN: 1995 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso

  • 1995 Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (5/21/2016)
lovely perfume. Strawberry and cherry fruit, a sense of stoniness, with asian spices, and oddly some menthol./eucalyptus. It’s full bodied but not heavy with beautiful balance and showing on the early side of peak. Structured but supple and giving. Layers of complexity here but when taken as a whole, this is a beautiful wine of harmony, power and grace. Outstanding stuff. 94+ (94 pts.)

Loved this when when tasted a few years ago. Same score and similar impression from me. Thanks for posting.

Nice note, Todd. I have enjoyed the Pianrosso from a number of vintages…also Ciacci Piccolomini’s Riservas.

Just picked up a 6/pack of the 2008 Pianrosso on Friday. I have been using the regular bottling of Ciacci Piccolomini’s Brunello as our house red at the lake cottage.

Your note indicated the 1995 was nearing its peak. That’s 20 years! I haven’t been aging mine that long…too anxious to pull the cork, I guess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hank

I have had this wine several times over the past 15 years and it has always been terrific! Well done. The '97 and '99 are both drinking well now also.
