TN: 1995 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

  • 1995 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (6/19/2009)
nose: fairly advanced nose with anise seed, black licorice, iron, bits of iodine, black cherries, and some sour berries

taste: good tannins still with a nice medium feel and good tannins making their presence. Good tones of anise, black cherries, iodine, cedar, and some mixed berries

overall: shockingly advanced is this bottle. While the color is still fairly dark and there isn’t much bricking, the aromas and tones are fairly mature. Not completely sure how to react to the wine as it is very drinkable, but one has to like this kind of maturity in a right bank wine. I’m more surprised at its advanced level given the producer and vintage. I’m finding it extremely enjoyable and like this kind of maturity, but its not for everyone (91 pts.)

You know, so far I have been fairly unimpressed with every bottle, every vintage of Beau-Sejour Becot I have tried. The '05 was one of the few, for example, from the vintage that I thought underachieved. See also Lynch Bages. Your note here leads me to believe I wouldn’t dig this one too much either.
