TN: 1993 Plaisir de Merle Cabernet Sauvignon - a comment in another wine thread about older South African vintages prompted me to grab my last bottle of this 1993 Cape wine last night. It was quite dark and had a nose of cedar and tobacco (I guess I could have just said cigar box) and it still had some decent fruit - dark plummy fruit. Still in good shape.
… and we had the 20024 Rustenberg Peter Barlow, which had the same tobacco character you found. Also drinking very nicely – it’s not a huge wine, but the dark fruit came out from behind the tobacco.
